Uparkot Fort

Uparkot Fort

Uparkot Fort is an ancient stone fort in Junagadh, Gujarat, believed to have origins around 319 BC during the Mauryan period, and later developed over centuries by various rulers.

Inside the fort, you can explore:

  • Massive ramparts and gates built for defence.

  • Buddhist caves carved into rock.

  • Step-wells like Adi-Kadi Vav and Navghan Kuvo.

  • Jama Masjid and other historical structures.

The fort walls are very high and strong — at places up to 20 m tall — and the site offers panoramic views over the city and nearby Girnar Hills.
